The Fruity Box

Insight:

With the overwhelming majority of queer social gatherings centred around a young party scene, substance use and hookups, the opportunity for older queer people to develop platonic relationships are minimal, and finding a meaningful connection to the queer community can be incredibly difficult, especially for those who've come out later in life.

Idea:

A subscription box of books and films that brings older queer folk together to foster and continue a queer community into old age.

How it works:

'The Fruity Box' is a monthly subscription box containing a classic queer book and a rotating list of queer films (available in an online library). The texts are accompanied by a queer companion guidebook to illuminate the queer themes and the texts significance to queer culture. Monthly lunches are be held at queer cafés for members to get together, discuss the books and films, and build their queer community.
